On , EXO commuter train 816 on the Mont-Saint-Hilaire line was proceeding eastward at Mile 62.18 on the Canadian National Railway Company St-Hyacinthe Subdivision when it struck a stopped automobile at a public crossing in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec. The driver of the automobile was fatally injured.
On 5 April 2023, a Canadian National Railway Company (CN) loaded unit grain train hauling 104 cars was proceeding westward on the CN Wainwright Subdivision when 18 grain hopper cars derailed at Mile 244.2. There were no injuries. The TSB is investigating.
On 8 August 2023, a Canadian National Railway Company (CN) freight train was travelling westward on the Wainwright Subdivision when it passed a Stop signal indication and sideswiped a westbound CN freight train that was departing the yard west of Wainwright, Alberta. As a result, two locomotives and two loaded intermodal cars on the first train derailed, while six loaded hopper cars on the second train derailed.
On 13 April 2023 at about 1451 Eastern Daylight Time, Canadian National Railway Company mixed freight train M 37231-13 was proceeding eastward on the south track of the Kingston Subdivision at about 43.2 mph when it passed signal 694S displaying a Stop indication at Wesco (Mile 69.4). At the same time, VIA Rail Canada Inc. passenger train P 06721-13 was travelling at approximately 45 mph westward on the south track of the Kingston Subdivision, approaching Wesco, where it was lined to cross over to the north track. Both trains stopped about 1100 feet apart.
On 21 November 2023, at approximately 1827 Eastern Standard Time, Canadian National Railway Company train X37621-20 (CN 376), a light engine movement, was travelling southward on the east track of the St-Laurent Subdivision when it collided at 32 mph with the tail end of a stationary Réseau de transport métropolitain commuter train (EXO 1212).
On 19 November 2023, a Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) freight train was proceeding northbound on the main track of the New Westminster Subdivision in Delta, British Columbia, at Mile 133.5, when it passed a stop signal and struck the side of a southbound mixed merchandise BNSF freight train.
On 05 February 2024, at approximately 1624 Mountain Standard Time, a Canadian Pacific Railway Company, doing business as CPKC, mixed-merchandise freight train travelling from Montréal, Quebec, to Edmonton, Alberta, was proceeding westward on the Brooks Subdivision at about 53 mph when the trailing head-end locomotive and 17 intermodal flat cars (41 platforms) derailed at Mile 65.8 near Brooks, Alberta. Some of the derailed cars were carrying dangerous goods but did not breach.
On 11 February 2024, at approximately 0156 Mountain Standard Time, a yard crew of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, doing business as CPKC, was operating yard assignment CK31-10 at Kipp Yard in Coalhurst, Alberta, when the assignment struck a cut of 79 stationary cars at 13 mph, causing 11 cars to derail, some of which were carrying dangerous goods. None of the cars leaked product, and no one was injured.
On 06 March 2024, a Canadian National Railway Company (CN) freight train loaded with wheat was travelling east on the north main track when 17 loaded hopper cars derailed at Mile 34.30 on the Rivers Subdivision.
No dangerous goods were released, and no injuries were reported.
