The occurrence
On 28 April 2013, at 0355 Central Standard Time, Canadian Pacific Railway freight train 679-101 was proceeding westward from Wilkie, Saskatchewan, to Hardisty, Alberta, when 17 of its cars, loaded with potash, derailed at Mile 80.7 on the Hardisty Subdivision, near Provost, Alberta. Approximately 350 feet of track was destroyed. There were no injuries.

The occurrence
On 24 January 2013 at 0856 Central Standard Time, eastbound Canadian National train L51141-23 struck a road grader that had stopped on the public grade crossing at Mile 33.70 of the Blackfoot Subdivision. As a result of the collision, the road grader was heavily damaged and the grader operator sustained fatal injuries. The train crew were not injured. Thelocomotive and 16 tank cars carrying dangerous goods derailed. Approximately 106,000 litres of crude oil was released from 4 cars.

The occurrence
On 09 January 2013, at about 0950 Eastern Standard Time, VIA Rail Canada Inc. passenger train No. 601, while proceeding at 60 mph northward on the Canadian National Joliette Subdivision, struck a westbound vehicle at the rang de la Deuxième-Chaloupe public crossing at Mile 98.79 near the town of Joliette, Quebec. As a result of the collision, the vehicle’s 2 occupants were fatally injured.

The occurrence
On , at about 1630 Mountain Daylight Time, Canadian Pacific Railway freight train 467-11 departing northward from Alyth Yard in Calgary, Alberta, en route to Red Deer, Alberta, derailed 7 tank cars loaded with liquid hydrocarbons at Mile 0.30 on the Red Deer Subdivision, in the Inglewood neighborhood of Calgary. About 600 feet of track was destroyed. There were no injuries and there was no product loss.

On 27 June 2013, at 0320 Mountain Daylight Time, Canadian Pacific Railway freight train 292 26, proceeding eastward from Canadian Pacific Railway’s Alyth Yard in Calgary, Alberta, to Medicine Hat, Alberta, derailed 6 tank cars on the Bonnybrook Bridge over the Bow River at Mile 172.5 on the Brooks Subdivision. There was no product loss, and there were no injuries.

The occurrence
On 19 January 2013, at 1523 Mountain Standard Time, eastward freight train CP 118-19 struck a vehicle at a level crossing at Mile 50.61 of the Brooks Subdivision. As a result of the collision, both the vehicle, a tanker truck loaded with petroleum crude oil (UN 1267), and the lead locomotive caught fire. The driver of the tanker truck and the two train crew members sustained minor injuries.

The occurrence
On 01 December 2012, at 1636 Eastern Standard Time, while proceeding westward on the Galt Subdivision, Canadian Pacific Railway freight train 147-01 struck an 11-year-old pedestrian on the Third Street public crossing (Mile 111.12) in London, Ontario. This crossing is equipped with flashing lights, a bell, and gates. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries.
