Figure 1 - Occurrences Reported to the TSB

  • In 2000 there were 1,991 reported accidents, 1,340 mandatorily reported incidents, 575 voluntarily reported incidents, 212 fatalities.
  • In 2001 there were 1,960 reported accidents, 1,448 mandatorily reported incidents, 643 voluntarily reported incidents, 210 fatalities.
  • In 2002 there were 1,813 reported accidents, 1,377 mandatorily reported incidents, 660 voluntarily reported incidents, 190 fatalities.
  • In 2003 there were 1,972 reported accidents, 1,390 mandatorily reported incidents, 672 voluntarily reported incidents, 172 fatalities.
  • In 2004 there were 1,935 reported accidents, 1,476 mandatorily reported incidents, 680 voluntarily reported incidents, 185 fatalities.

Figure 2 - Investigations Started / In Progress / Completed

  • In 2000-2001 there were 113 investigations started, 176 investigations in progress and 87 completed.
  • In 2001-2002 there were 94 investigations started, 159 investigations in progress and 111 completed.
  • In 2002-2003 there were 89 investigations started, 139 investigations in progress and 109 completed.
  • In 2003-2004 there were 76 investigations started, 142 investigations in progress and 73 completed.
  • In 2004-2005 there were 74 investigations started, 108 investigations in progress and 98 completed.

  • In 2000 there were 527 marine reported accidents, 248 mandatorily reported incidents and 31 fatalities.
  • In 2001 there were 518 marine reported accidents, 239 mandatorily reported incidents and 34 fatalities.
  • In 2002 there were 485 marine reported accidents, 174 mandatorily reported incidents and 28 fatalities.
  • In 2003 there were 547 marine reported accidents, 223 mandatorily reported incidents and 17 fatalities.
  • In 2004 there were 491 marine reported accidents, 246 mandatorily reported incidents and 28 fatalities.

  • In 2000 there were 2.7 accidents per 1,000 vessel movements
  • In 2001 there were 3.4 accidents per 1,000 vessel movements

  • In 2004 there were 3.0 accidents per 1,000 vessel movements

  • In 2000 there were 22 reported accidents and 37 mandatorily reported incidents.
  • In 2001 there were 23 reported accidents and 34 mandatorily reported incidents.
  • In 2002 there were 20 reported accidents and 35 mandatorily reported incidents.
  • In 2003 there were 21 reported accidents and 38 mandatorily reported incidents.
  • In 2004 there were 7 reported accidents and 70 mandatorily reported incidents.
  • There were no fatalities reported since 1988.

  • In 2002 there were 984 rail reported accidents, 303 mandatorily reported incidents and 96 fatalities.
  • In 2003 there were 1,032 rail reported accidents, 295 mandatorily reported incidents and 79 fatalities.
  • In 2004 there were 1,129 rail reported accidents, 251 mandatorily reported incidents and 100 fatalities.

  • In 2003 there were 373 air reported accidents, 834 mandatorily reported incidents and 76 fatalities.
  • In 2004 there were 308 air reported accidents, 909 mandatorily reported incidents and 57 fatalities.
